Promotional Planners vs. Desk Calendars: Which Fits Your Clients?

Short answer: choose a desk calendar when you want your brand on a client's desk every working day, and a pocket planner when you want it travelling with them through the year. Our desk calendars start at $3.99 CAD (minimum 125 units, English and French), and our pocket planners start at $3.25 CAD (minimum 125 units, English only). Most insurance agencies get the best coverage by giving both.

We manufacture and imprint both formats in-house, so this comparison comes from the production floor, not a brochure. Below: how each format works, what each costs, and how to decide for your client list.

How a desk calendar works

A desk calendar is a vinyl base with a month-at-a-glance, 14-month paper insert. Your logo is hot-stamped on the base in silver, gold or white. It sits on the desk, in view, all year.

  • Starting price: from $3.99 CAD per unit (HY0115, front imprint).
  • Minimum: 125 units.
  • Languages: English and French versions.
  • Refills: the HY0115R refill starts at $1.65 CAD, so year two costs far less than year one.

How a pocket planner works

A pocket planner is a vinyl-covered diary your client carries in a bag, a jacket or a car. We make it in weekly, bi-weekly and monthly formats, plus a larger action planner. Imprinting is on the front cover, and plain vinyl or Look of Luxury covers are available.

Our planners are currently available in English only. Refills are available for each format, for example the monthly pocket planner refill from $1.75 CAD.

Planner vs. desk calendar: side by side

Where your brand is seen

A desk calendar is seen at one location, many times a day. A planner is seen wherever the client goes, but only when it is opened or carried. Neither is better in the abstract; the question is which setting your clients spend their time in.

Cost per unit

At our listed starting prices, a monthly pocket planner ($3.25 CAD) is slightly lower than a desk calendar ($3.99 CAD). The weekly planner and action planner cost more. Refills make the second year cheaper for both formats.

Language

If you serve French-speaking clients, the desk calendar is the format we offer in both English and French. Our planners are English only. See our guide to bilingual promotional products.

Minimums

Desk calendars and most pocket planners start at 125 units. The action planner starts at 75.

Which fits your clients?

  • Office-based clients, commercial accounts, long-term policyholders: desk calendar.
  • Mobile clients, field professionals, producers and advisors: pocket planner.
  • French-speaking clients: desk calendar.
  • Your best accounts: both. Pair a planner with a calendar for visibility on the desk and on the road.
